You may have heard lots of talk in the media about stem cells and their importance, but what are they, and why do they need to be counted?
Stem cells are the foundation of every part of your body. Each cell is unique and rapidly replicates itself. There are more than 200 different types of cells, across your organs, bone, blood, skin, and more. Made in the bone marrow, stem cells disperse through the body, via the bloodstream. As they travel, they repair damaged organs and tissues. To be effective, they must be in sufficient number to assist the damaged cells, as well as providing maintenance support to the other organs. An important function of stem cells is to divide rapidly, allowing them to replace dead cells. Think of it as if someone leaves their job, a new team member has to step into the role and work collectively with the other cells they have joined.
Scientists and doctors have highlighted that if you have a high number of cells circulating your body, you’re not only healthier but also at less risk of dangerous diseases. Conversely, the opposite is true for a low stem cell count: you have an increased risk of disease. Underperforming stem cells have an inability to regulate the organs. For example, low numbers of stem cells in the blood are associated with risks of cardiovascular disease and strokes.
A decreased number of cells in the bloodstream are related to conditions associated with the following:
A stem cell count test is an effective approach to assessing your risk of the diseases listed above. If the results show a low stem cell count, our medical team are on hand to assist in shaping a strategy for your diet, exercise, and potential supplementation to boost your stem cell performance.
